Inns and Cathedrals

Carcassonne expansion 1: Inns and Cathedrals, includes 6 tiles that will increase the value of roads from 1 point per tile to 2 points per tile and 2 tiles that will increase the value of cities from 3 points per tile to 4 points per tile.

1. Placing a Tile

The new landscape tiles are placed exactly like those in the base game. 6 of the 18 new tiles include images of an Inn on the side of a road segment. 2 of the new tiles are 4 sided Cathedral city tiles.

2. Placing a Meeple

The rules for placing meeples are unchanged from those in the base game. The new land tiles' special features are presented in the Scoring phase below.

3. Scoring

If a road with an Inn is completed during the game it is scored as 2 points per tile instead of 1 point per tile. If the road remains incomplete at the end of the game, it is worth zero points!

When a player completes a city with one or both cathedrals, the scoring player(s) receive 3 points per tile and coat of arms in this completed city (instead of the usual 2 points). If the city remains incomplete at the end of the game, it is worth zero points!

  Additional Actions

Placing a Cathedral on another player's city is allowed, and is particularly useful towards the end of a game, when it can strip a large city of an opponent of points. The same goes for roads with Inns.
